LA HISTORIA OCULTA DE “LA PUERTA DE BIELVA”: UN BARCO Y UN APELLIDO. UN TESTIGO DIRECTO DE LA GUERRA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA EN EL MUSEO MARÍTIMO DEL CANTÁBRICO.
THE HIDDEN STORY OF “LA PUERTA DE BIELVA”: A SHIP AND A SURNAME. A DIRECT WITNESS TO THE WAR OF SPANISH INDEPENDENCE AT THE MARITIME MUSEUM OF THE CANTABRIAN SEA.

RESUMEN
En este trabajo se presentan las investigaciones llevadas a cabo durante 2 años por los miembros del Grupo de Investigación GeoArqHis en el marco de un proyecto sobre la cultura marinera. En este caso, se ha recabado información sobre una puerta expuesta en el Museo Marítimo del Cantábrico de Santander (MMCS) de la que se tenía poca información hasta este momento y, en la que destacan entre otros, los grabados de una imponente velero, potencialmente antiguo y sobre el que subyace igualmente grabado el apellido Velarde. El navío, a tenor de los elementos que lo acompañan y los minuciosos detalles que tiene, sólo pudo ser grabado por un gran conocedor de los barcos de época. Quizás, fue una de las motivaciones principales que llevaron a que el que fuera Director del MMCS, D. José Luis Casado Soto, decidiera adquirirlo para exponerlo desde la apertura del museo. Si bien, en su momento se catalogó el barco como un Galeón del siglo XVI, existen evidencias que apuntan a que se corresponde con un buque del siglo XVIII-XIX. Pero además, tras la investigación minuciosa del viejo portón, se han hallado testimonios más allá del barco, saliendo a la luz el resto de grabados que convierten la puerta en un monumento, y en un testigo de los sucesos históricos más representativos del principios del siglo XIX en Cantabria y de una España en plena Guerra de la Independencia.

ABSTRACT:
This paper presents the investigations carried out during 2 years by the members of the GeoArqHis Research Group within the framework of a project on marine culture. In this case, information has been collected about a door exposed in the Santander Cantabrian Maritime Museum (MMCS) about which little information was available until now. The engravings of a magnificent old ship have been studied, under which there is an inscription of the surname «Velarde». The ship, according to the elements that accompany it and the meticulous details that it has, could only be recorded by a great connoisseur of ancient ships. Perhaps, it was one of the main motivations that led the former Director of the MMCS, Mr. José Luis Casado Soto, to decide to acquire it to exhibit it from the opening of the museum. Although, at the time, the ship was classified as a 16th century Galleon, there is evidence that it corresponds to a ship from the 18th-19th century. But also, after the meticulous investigation of the old gate, testimonies have been found beyond the ship, bringing to light the rest of the engravings that make this piece a monument and a witness of the most representative historical events of the beginning of XIX century, during the War of Independence.
