RESUMEN
El Archivo Técnico es una sección del Servicio de Documentación Geográfica y Biblioteca que depende de la Secretaría General del Instituto Geográfico Nacional [IGN]. El Archivo recoge y conserva los documentos cartográficos generados, aproximadamente entre 1850 y 1950, en los procesos de producción para levantar el Mapa de España por métodos topográficos.
Este artículo, dividido en tres capítulos, pretende difundir los trabajos que se están llevando a cabo de organización y análisis del fondo documental y cartográfico del Archivo Técnico, clasificando los documentos según fechas en que fueron confeccionados, escalas empleadas para su levantamiento, temas tratados y proyectos en los que estos documentos quedan enmarcados.
Este primer capítulo se centra en los trabajos que realizó la Junta General de Estadística (precursora del actual IGN) en los inicios del levantamiento del Mapa de España entre 1861 y 1870.

ABSTRACT:
The Technical File is a section of the Geographic Documentation and Library Service that reports to the General Secretariat of the National Geographic Institute [IGN, Spain]. The Archive collects and preserves the cartographic documents generated, approximately between 1850 and 1950, in the production processes to realize the Map of Spain by topographic methods.
This article, divided into three chapters, aims to disseminate the work being carried out on the organization and analysis of the documentary and cartographic fund of the Technical Archive, classifying the documents according to the dates they were made, scales used for their development and Projects in which these documents are framed.
This first chapter focuses on the work done by the Junta General de Estadística (precursor of the current IGN- National Geographic Institute of Spain -) at the beginning of the development of the Map of Spain between 1861 and 1870.
